7 1ShoppingCart Alternatives & The Pre-Purchase Need-To-Knows

30 Oct

In the last few weeks, I’ve been wondering whether or not I’ve made the best decision when I first began my ecommerce site. At that point I was new to the game, and while I did some rudimentary research, I didn’t go full on crazy with it. I ended up choosing 1ShoppingCart because it’s what a lot of people were recommending and it seemed to be really popular.

Was that a mistake? Well for the past few weeks, I’ve been researching alternatives and I’ve made some interesting discoveries. It seems as though there’s a lot more choices now compared to when I began.

It’s important to note however that I’ve actually been extremely happy with my choice in 1ShoppingCart. There’s nothing that’s driven me to look beyond this particular product except curiosity, and the time that I now have to re-evaluate that decision. I suppose that there’s a lot to be said for the fact that I have this extra time because of the fact that 1ShoppingCart has helped me to run things smoothly with my site.

Let’s just take a look at some of what 1ShoppingCart does offer…

  • Very professional store templates that make you look like the real deal (even if you’re not yet actually)…
  • Flexible product options allowing people to choose sizes, colors, etc…
  • Make your products come to life with multiple images, and views. (Customers will be able to see your products up close.)…
  • Use the software to sell absolutely anything including physical products, services, and even digital goods and eBooks…
  • Mobile store capabilities…
  • Secure user access, allows you to provide access to contractors, staff and outsourcers with total confidence.
  • Built-in email broadcast capabilities to a subset or your entire list…
  • Designed to be Optimized for search engines out of the box so you can get found on Google, Bing or Yahoo…
  • Awesome social media integration…
  • And tons more!

VolusionVolusion is a company that’s been around since 1999 as well, just like 1ShoppingCart. They’ve followed much of the same path, and of course like any well established and well known company, they’ve focused on keeping their clients and online store owners happy.

Let’s check out a bit of what Volusion has to offer:

  • They make everything extremely simple…
  • 120 high quality templates to choose from…
  • Built in website wizard which takes you by the hand, making certain that you don’t miss anything when creating your ecommerce store…
  • When your inventory runs low, Volusion will shoot you an alert to let you know so that you can remedy the situation quickly and order up some more of the item…
  • Check on how your business is doing with detailed reporting…
  • Accept payment in many different ways including Google and Paypal and many more…
  • Ton of advanced features for calculating taxes by state or even by zip code…
  • A ton of features to make sure that your site is safe and secure for shoppers as well as for yourself…
  • And much more.

Here’s the deal.

Volusion is a full featured ecommerce shopping cart. It’s relatively similar and comparable to 1ShoppingCart with most of its features.

They’re both very easy to use. They both go the extra mile in getting you started on the right path, and helping you sell more stuff. That’s what this game is about naturally.

If I were starting out today, I would find it a very tough choice in choosing between these two shopping cart solutions. That being said, at this stage in the game, I wouldn’t switch. It’s really apples to apples. I find them basically even in their features and their benefits to ME. But I can easily recommend just as much as I can 1ShoppingCart!

ShopifyShopify is a company out of Ottawa, Canada and was founded in 2005. In a nutshell, it was founded by people who wanted a better ecommerce solution. These are often the best companies in the world because they pay attention to details, and they’re looking to troubleshoot their way into you loving them.

Shopify has a lot to offer and seems to be making some great waves with over 30,000 stores online using their software. Here’s what you get with Shopify…

  • Astoundingly easy and user-friendly they are… even for the person who’s never had or built a website before…
  • Tons of templates to choose from…
  • Wizard takes you by the hand when setting up your site, so every essential element of your ecommerce site is complete and ready to launch…
  • Easily contact those who have purchased from you in the past, and send them reminders to visit your online-store again with the ‘Customer Menu’…
  • Menu for keeping up with your inventory so customers are never presented with a “not available” type of message…
  • SEO capabilities for on-page Optimization…
  • Amazing analytics revealing how customers come to your site, which countries and cities they’re from, which websites referred them, the keyword used, and how many visits you’ve gotten…
  • Advanced mobile capabilities…
  • Extremely safe with top-tier security capabilities…

One thing I’m finding in my research is that there really are a lot of great alternatives out there, that do compare very well to 1ShoppingCart.

Like Volusion, Shopify is definitely one of those. One thing that I see with Shopify is that it’s perfect for the beginner who’s never build a site. If you’re totally new to the game of ecommerce then Shopify would definitely be a great choice.

However, from what it seems, knowing a little bit about this now, 1ShoppingCart is better for those who are more advanced, or have plans to take their online shop to that next level…or keep advancing it.

So with that being said I’d definitely stick with 1ShoppingCart myself, because there’s tons of advanced features…and it’s SUPER easy to use.

3DCart – This is a company that’s been around, or at least the grand idea has been around since 1997. The founders worked out all the kinks and have made 3DCart into what many people feel is a ecommerce phenomenon. The goal of founder Gonzalo Gil was to create a ecommerce solution that was virtually the best of all of them out there.

He’s succeeded, and you’ll see when you realize what’s included with 3DCart:

  • Simple and user friendly interface…
  • 50 SEO optimized templates to choose from…
  • Design your store with simple WYSIWYG web design, HTML capabilities, as well CSS…
  • Social Commerce tools make updating your Facebook, Twitter, or Blog extremely simple to do…directly from your control panel…
  • Sell your products straight from your Facebook page…
  • Set-up coupon promotions, a storewide discount, or promotions on single items…
  • Shopping cart is PCI compliant and secured by McAfee, Complete SSL security, firewall protection, intrusion detection, etc.
  • Great customer support is 24/7 via phone, chat, or email…
  • Huge knowledge base including full of step-by-step videos, tutorials, as well as a support forum…

So 3DCart is easily one of the best available alternatives to 1ShoppingCart. From my research…and a ton of time playing around with the features within, I’ve found it to be quite commendable.

This is one that I can see myself using down the road. I don’t see myself actually switching over from 1ShoppingCart with my current ecommerce stores, but it’s definitely something that I can highly recommend as a great alternative. But I do still give 1ShoppingCart a very minute edge.

AShop – This is a company that founded in 2001, and has caused a stir when it comes to their ease of use, and their customer service. Basically their goal is to create a product that you can use while having the least amount of trouble imaginable.

As a relatively small company they’ve been able to create a big impact. Let’s see why by looking at what they’ve added to their ecommerce software capabilities:

  • Very simple to use and create your ecommerce store…
  • 60 design templates to choose from…
  • Numerous customization tools ensuring your website is unique…
  • Smooth and simple inventory management…
  • You can sell either physical or downloadable goods…
  • Great analytics capabilities with custom reports of all inventory, traffic, sales, and more…
  • Search engine optimization (SEO tools for increasing search engine rankings so your store is much easier for your customers to find…
  • Variety of payment options offered. Accept real time credit card payments, PayPal, and more than 100 bank and payment gateways.
  • You won’t have to limit your business to just the United States because of an assortment of currency options…
  • Wide-ranging marketing features and tools at your disposal…
  • Sell your products directly from your Facebook page…
  • Extensive security features…
  • All activity SSL protected, and featuring “MaxMind Fraud Detection Services.”
  • Outstanding support and guidance. Reach customer service by live chat, telephone, and email.
  • Variety of online resources with an extensive knowledgebase available…

Again Ashop is another one of the ecommerce packages that’s remarkably easy to use. It seems like these companies are understanding that people want a simple point and click solution where they can get up and running without too much hassle.

I could see recommending Ashop to someone just getting started for sure, who will be starting a rather simple ecommerce store. Yet, I think that 1ShoppingCart is about where I want to be as far as advanced features, and Ashop isn’t something that I’m willing to switch to. But again it looks like a pretty good solution to someone who wants a simple solution that goes a bit above the basics.

X-CartThis is a company that started right at the turn of the millennium. In 2000 Ruslan R. Fazlyev created X-Cart as his first start up, and has had great success. In fact in the past 5 years, this shopping cart solution has become widely known, and widely used, with many accolades.

Let’s take a look at what X-Cart has to offer…

  • 14 professionally designed and totally customizable site templates…
  • Sell unlimited number of physical or downloadable goods, and even services…
  • Comprehensive inventory control, with detailed statistics for products…
  • Catalog manager lets you keep a keen eye on inventory levels…
  • Create “special offers” and “customer wish lists”…
  • Customers have the ability to rate products on your site where you have total control over the ratings displayed…
  • Integrates with all major shipping carriers…
  • Integrates with all payment gateways…
  • Provides social media network integration…
  • Robust backoffice lets you set unique pricing options for products, as well automate shipping and tax estimates according to your shipping destinations…
  • Top of the line security features…
  • 24/7 access to Customer support have via telephone or live chat…

X-Cart is not as easy to use as the others I’ve talked about such as Ashop and 3D Cart. However this is a more advanced type of ecommerce shopping cart. It’s definitely more robust for someone who’s already in tune with a bit of design, and things such as html knowledge.

Basically if you’re looking for a full functioning ecommerce solution, then X-Cart seems to be pretty on par with 1ShoppingCart.

Except the fact is that even though X-Cart does go as advanced as 1ShoppingCart, the ease of use factor makes it not as appealing to me as my current solution so I’ll definitely stick with 1ShoppingCart.

BigCommerceEven though BigCommerce was only started back in 2009, they’ve made huge strides very quickly. They’ve also seemingly emulated many of the long-standing companies out there with the tremendous features.

Let’s look at what BigCommerce brings to the table:

  • 96 professional template designs…
  • Very user-friendly for newbies and veterans…
  • Let’s you offer unlimited products, with no product category restrictions…
  • Inventory control that lets you know which products are selling, what you have in stock, and even who buying your goods…
  • Notifications via email when stock becomes low…
  • Incredibly search engine friendly…
  • SocialShop 2 Facebook Application lets you stick your shopping cart right onto your Facebook fan page…
  • Integrate your store with eBay, shopping comparison sites, and mobile marketing…
  • Easily integrate your email marketing solutions…
  • SSL security protects your customers and makes them feel secure that they’re making a safe purchase…
  • Extensive knowledgebase provided…
  • Chat and email support are available 24 hours Monday thru Friday and until 6pm on Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.

This ecommerce store builder is one that compares to 1ShoppingCart in many fashions. Above most others…just like 1ShoppingCart this one makes a great balancing act of ease of use, along with advanced features.

I can’t think of a reason to change to BigCommerce since they’re just as good as 1ShoppingCart, but if 1ShoppingCart suddenly quit working, or rubbed me the wrong way for whatever reason, I could see making the switch right over to BigCommerce!

CoreCommerceCoreCommerce is another relatively young company being founded in only 2008. This company seems to bring a lot of what’s right to the table with their ecommerce software. They’ve done well with the finer points of ecommerce and shopping carts like their predecessors have done.

Here’s a bit of what they’ve done to become a heavy hitter in the industry:

  • More than 250 themes to choose from…
  • Very easy to use interface…
  • Hassle-free process for Setting up your store….
  • Extensive reports let you know exactly how your business is doing, and alerts you when inventory is low…
  • Your data is SSL protected, utilizing strong firewall protection.
  • Daily backups performed ensuring all data is secure and any lost data can be easily accessed with all of your store’s information …
  • Email capabilities allowing you to send frequent newsletters to all of your customers…
  • Create gift certificates, discounts, and coupons…
  • Social network integration allows you to sell right on your Facebook profile
  • Let your customers easily set up accounts right on your website using their Facebook, Google, or Twitter login info…
  • SEO optimization help your search engine rankings
  • Great customer support…

So there are some good things as you can see when it comes to CoreCommerce. However with this ecommerce solution, not much really jumps out at me. Perhaps its exhaustion and brain overload from going over so many other ecommerce suites.

CoreCommerce doesn’t move me in either direction. It just seems very much like a “me too” type of ecommerce solution, and therefore I’d surely recommend any of the others that I’ve looked at above it. I’d definitely recommend 1ShoppingCart well above this one and will continue to use that solution myself.

I Set Out to Find Alternatives to 1ShoppingCart, and Absolutely Did Find Some

It was quite a journey to say the least investigating and second guessing my decision. It’s never easy to say that you’ve made a bad decision, and this time I’m lucky that I don’t have to say that. I’m positive that I’ve absolutely made the right decision.

Doing this research for alternatives has clearly showed me that while there are equivalent choices in some ways, there really aren’t better solutions out there. The only ones that seemed to be almost AS good are 3DCart and BigCommerce. They would be my highest rated alternatives, but I wouldn’t switch from 1ShoppingCart to them.

1ShoppingCart in my eyes still remains the top ecommerce solution on the market today, and I’m extremely proud to continue to use them forever!
